This institution, rooted in Christian values, honours the uniqueness of each student deriving from various Christian traditions. Rapid growth led to its relocation to Glenburn House in Dunmerry in 1983. The college has always been a staunch advocate for making theological education accessible. Little wonder, then, it had made headways by initiating women-focused courses in 1975 and accommodating multiple learning modes with evening classes since 1985. With each passing year, the college has grown both in infrastructure and student numbers, presently housing over 200 full-time students and over 500 through other study modes. In terms of diverse representation, international students account for more than 20%, bringing to the table unique cultural perspectives and engagements. This multicultural ambiance not just adds to the college's distinct identity, but crucially shapes its vision, mission and impacts the local community by bridging boundaries and bringing the world closer.

Unique to the college is its significant population of international students, creating a truly global learning environment. This potpourri of different cultures brings about mutual learning and broadens one's mindset, allowing students to navigate their spiritual journey in a diverse and enriching context. In essence, the college not only opens doors to the world for its students but also sows deep seeds of cultural understanding and interfaith dialogue within them. History Columbia Bible College

Let's step back in time to the mid-1900s, in the small Canadian town of Abbotsford. It's here that Columbia Bible College was born, out of the union of two distinct schools, in 1970. Picture a humble Mennonite Brethren Church, where in 1936, the congregation founds the Mennonite Brethren Bible Institute (MBBI), originally known as the South Abbotsford Mennonite Brethren Bible School. Visualize a simple building being moved in 1943 to serve as the school, renamed the Bethel Bible School, with the joined support of three local Mennonite Brethren churches, an early community effort.

Imagine a small classroom in the mid-1940s, brimming with 34 eager students. So successful was the school, that a high school program was swiftly introduced, causing a brief relocation to Clearbrook. However, with the construction of a new high school in Clearbrook in 1946, Bethel Bible School could finally return to its home in South Abbotsford. This was a time of growth, with new churches supporting the institution under the stewardship of J. F. Redekop, the head from 1944 onwards.

Picture the mid-1950s, as the six supporting churches club together to purchase land and erect what would eventually become MBBI. As you can see, the school was community-built, gradually expanding its reach and impact. By the 1960s, records show 96 students enrolling in a single academic year and, with burgeoning numbers, came the need for dormitories. The first of these was built in 1962, followed by Redekop Hall in 1966 and Centennial Hall just a year later.

Now place yourself in 1970, a momentous year for both MBBI and the Bethel Bible Institute (BBI). A working agreement was signed, deciding to operate as one single Bible school. Invested in the unification, a new dining room and student lounge were constructed to comfortably accommodate the 189 students now enrolled. It was then that MBBI and BBI integrated to become Columbia Bible Institute.

Delve a little further into the past, back to 1939. In a church in Aldergrove, formally known as Coghlan, Rev. N. W. Bahnman announces the opening of a tuition-free Bible school meant to meet local and provincial religious educational needs. A team of three enthusiastic, unpaid instructors teach 22 committed students, marking the birth of BBI. Wooing you into the fabric of its history, it's essential to remember that even in challenging times, the community stood fast, building the institution brick by brick.

Fast forward to the 1970s, a period packed with growth for Columbia Bible Institute. Witness the record enrolment of 266 students and the extension of the curriculum by a whole year. Imagine the buzz as the college constructs a three-story dormitory in 1976, expanding its reach and impact! By 1988, they were celebrating the completion of a three-story residence dubbed Columbia Hall, with an office, administration, and library complex following up in 1992.

Add to the vision a sprawling Athletics Centre offering two full-size courts for 1200 spectators, built in 2001. Could you perceive the sweet smell of fresh paint and the sounds of construction as they expanded their Student Centre in 2004? And yet growth didn't halt. A new dormitory was built in 2011, enhancing student accommodation up to 130 souls.

By 1982, the Mennonite Brethren and the Conference of Mennonites strove to transform their operational agreement into a covenant of equal partnership. When the Mennonite Brethren extended an invitation to unite the establishment and advancement of the Columbia Bible Institute, it was graciously accepted, solidifying the bond. It was this unwavering unity, distinct theological teaching, and a shared mission that led to the creation of the first inter-Mennonite Bible Institute in North America.

Imagine, if you will, the joy and validation that swept across the campus in 1987 when the Columbia Bible College Act was passed by the B.C. Legislative Assembly. It empowered the college to confer theological degrees, a far cry from its humble beginnings. +
