The incredible journey of Ambrose University takes us back to the mid-twentieth century. Picture this: Gordon Skitch, Willis Brooks, and George Blackett founded the Alliance University College (AUC) in 1941, under the auspices of the Western Canadian District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Their goal? To advance educational opportunities in Regina, Saskatchewan. The school, initially known as the Canadian Bible Institute, underwent numerous transformations evolving into the Western Canadian Bible Institute (1949), and later, the Canadian Bible College (1957).
As CBC's influence grew, a sister graduate school, the Canadian Theological College (CTC), sprang to life in 1970, which was eventually renamed as the Canadian Theological Seminary (CTS) in 1982. While CBC/CTS was establishing its footprint, another noteworthy institution, Nazarene University College (NUC), was making its mark.
Way back in 1921, NUC started humbly, blossoming within the basement of the Calgary First Church of the Nazarene. In 1927, the school shifted to Red Deer, renamed as Alberta School of Evangelism and later as Northern Bible College (NBC). By 1940, NBC was awarding theology degrees and became the Canadian Nazarene College (CNC). CNC, shifting homes, first to Winnipeg in 1960, then back to Calgary in 1995, had quite the journey. It secured accreditation as a university college in 1999 and adopted its modern name, Nazarene University College (NUC).
But wait, the journey isn't over yet. 2003 and 2004 were pivotal years! CBC/CTS relocated to share the same campus as NUC, achieved accreditation, and strategically rebranded itself as the AUC.
