Back in the groovy times of 1887, someone had a bold new idea. Yep, Anna Leonowens, one cool lady, decided to step out of the box, kick off the shackles, and boom! The Nova Scotia College of Arts and Design (NSCAD) stepped onto the scene. A fierce advocate for women's education, Ms Leonowens had the gumption to set up this digit- rending, idea-sparking art college, the first in Canadian history.
Fast forward to 1925, NSCAD was in full swing, breaking out new ideas faster than a monkey on a typewriter, scoring a reputation like the cool new kid on the block. This awe-inspiring institution wasn't just any old school - it was a revolution, bursting open the creative scene like a bag of rainbow-coloured popcorn.
Wait a minute though - it gets better! They weren’t done egg-trickin' the world - oh no! By 1969, NSCAD had metamorphosed headfirst into a university. Yeah, alright, so universities might be commonplace over here in India, but in Nova Scotia? That's a big deal, folks.
Now we're speeding through time in our DeLorean to 2003. NSCAD ain't much for resting on laurels, and they make the nifty move of renaming themselves - now they're the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. A bit of a mouthful, perhaps, but that's okay. It's clear they have bucket loads of individuality, just like us Indians, and a knack for taking on the world!
With a bang and a twirl, NSCAD undertakes a momentous task in 2011. Anyone fancy a game of Chinese whispers? Well, NSCAD took the thought literally as they dove headfirst into an exchange with the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Imagine that - getting to paint, sketch, and design your way through the cultural kaleidoscope of China!
Sprinkling a bit of that Indian masala into NSCAD's growth salad was Dr. Aoife Mac Namara. Coming onboard in 2019, she toasts up a new dimension to NSCAD's evolving cocktail of arts-education with her spicy Irish roots, dancing on the world-stage and gifting NSCAD the title of the most comprehensive art institution in the North America.
So, my friends, that's the tale of NSCAD University. From spunky new college in 1887 to globe-trotting creative powerhouse in 2021, this place has got spunk, sparkle and a whole lot of spirit.
Ya know, it reminds me of a good old Bollywood film - full of flare, drama, and a lot of heart. Wouldn't you agree? A life-altering journey from the past to the present, just like the spicy curry twists we love in our favourite films! But wait, I bet there's an exciting sequel waiting for NSCAD, just like those cliffhanger endings we can't resist! Now isn't that something to look forward to?
