Once upon a time, you know, back in 1946, a spark of brilliant thought ignited, and voila! The Lakehead Technical Institute came into being. Good old Thunder Bay, Ontario, was never the same after that. Imagine two World Wars had just had a wrench thrown in their works and then suddenly, a beacon of hope started to flicker.
Fast forward a bit to 1956, and there's our beloved institute taking a giant leap, jumping higher than Dhyan Chand at the Olympic finals. It converted itself into the Lakehead College of Arts, Science and Technology. Now, that was a bit of a mouthful, right?
So, slip your time-travel shoes back on and whisk ahead to 1970. Kapow! Our humble little college was now Lakehead University, making its mark in the world just like Sachin Tendulkar on the cricket pitch. And you know what else? It had the honour of being the first university in Ontario, formed through a non-denominational process. Something to boast about, isn't it?
Now, here's a kicker. 1985 turned out to be a real googly. The university went from being a dark horse to a front runner, opening its doors to our brothers and sisters from the First Nations. Talk about a university for the people, eh?
