Curled up in the adorable corners of Southern Ontario, our very own University of Windsor declared its existence to the world in 1857. Naa, your cranium ain't tricking you! We're gabbing about an educational legacy that predates the Canadian confederation. Once upon a time, it went by the name of Assumption College, a small liberal arts college run by our buddies, the Basilian Fathers of Sandwich.
Lightbulb moment came in 1919, when our Assumption College sprouted its university wings and spun into a University of Western Ontario affiliate. But did it stop there? No sirree! Sticking to the adage "change is the only constant", the Assumption College metamorphosized yet again in 1953. This time around, it became the University of Assumption, a milestone marked by a holy pat on the back from the Pope himself!
Enter 1956, and it's a year brimming with identity crises for our budding university. Yet again, The University of Assumption lost its 'assumptive' epithet and became Assumption University of Windsor – shedding off the shell, only to embrace a brand-new avatar.
With 1962 knocking at our door, the church decides to pass the educational gauntlet to the civil folks. This marked a twist in the tale as our 'Assumptive' entity took on its final form as the 'University of Windsor', a public university ready to embrace diversity and an international spirit. All this transpired under the watchful eye of its founding president Dr. John Francis Leddy, who kindled the euphoria of secular education and international growth.
Over the decades, the University of Windsor has danced to the tunes of global change and innovation. From hosting some of the finest faculties in the humanities, sciences, and, engineering to fostering a vibrant research culture, it hasn't missed a beat! And oh boy, with over 44 major academic programs under its belt, this institution caters to a whopping 16,000 students. That's about thrice the population of Vatican City, just throwing it out there!
With its sprawling 51-hectare campus, the University of Windsor has been playing host to a colourful array of students. With more than 20% being international, this melting pot of cultures and experiences can give you a sneak peek into the global world. And hey, why let the fact slip past that a third of these are from our very own motherland, India?
The University of Windsor flexes its academic muscles yet again by enabling students to rub elbows with industry experts, thanks to its co-op programs. We're gabbing about a real-world exposure that can jazz up your resume while feeding your curiosity. Talk about killing two birds with one stone! What's quirky is they've got a Human Kinetics program that's raring to give a fit kick-start to your career, Pun intended…wink wink!
Our university tale winds up at the patented EPICentre. The Ellenator for all innovative dreams, the EPICentre pulsates with entrepreneurial spirit, coaxing the 'ahem' dormant creative genius in you. All those lightbulb moments that you brushed off as fragmented dreams, well, this is where they take shape and spin into your personal success stories.
We’ll leave you with this - the road leading up to our beloved University of Windsor may have witnessed seismic shifts, but it's the spirit of multicultural inclusion, global exposure, and innovation that's remained a steadfast pillar majorly offering a second 'home away from home' for our Indian buddies. And ain't that what we've all been yearning for? After all, "Change is the spice of life but home is where the heart is!"
