Being an exemplary symbol of higher education, the University of Bradford (UB) in the UK holds a robust academic prestige. Tracing its roots back to 1966, Bradford's journey of inspiring lives through education is noteworthy, pioneering the concept of a dedicated research department way back in 1973. This vision has now evolved into a massive centre for peace and conflict studies, underlying the university's commitment to global issues. Today, Bradford graces the 54th position on the national scale and holds the 626th rank on the international front. In fact, in 2005 and 2006, The Times Good University Guide lauded UB's commitment towards career development, bagging the 7th and 2nd positions respectively on the graduate employment scale. Besides crafting successful professionals, Bradford's dedication to in-depth research doesn't go unnoticed. With the university nestled in the prestigious TOP-50 English Universities, the sizeable research funding sextuples the credibility. Additionally, the RAE organization's report in 2008 further validates its research fame, stating that 80% of the university's scientists are buttressing global research.
From a student's perspective, studying at UB entails numerous perks. It's not only the university's accolades that impress, but the palpable dedication to high-quality education and research that gains a nod. Bradford's reputation of pushing the boundaries in various fields sets a fertile ground for innovation and intellectual stimulation. Hence, for students aspiring for a balance of practical knowledge with theoretical foundations, coupled with the security of a promising post-graduate future, the University of Bradford offers a comprehensive, globally relevant package.

The narrative of the University of Bradford weaves an intriguing tale that begins in the year of 1832 – an era where the industrial revolution was in full swing and the need for skilled workers was paramount. It was this necessity that led to the formation of the Mechanics Institute, the roots from which the university would eventually grow.
Fast forward to 1882, when the thriving Mechanics Institute evolved into the Bradford Technical College. As time marched on, so did the progression of our college. It was mid-1957 when we embraced our new identity as Bradford Institute of Technology, stepping up to shoulder the responsibility of guiding higher education aspirants.
Our journey of transformation continued steadfastly. The sanctum of learning you see today was years in the making. The architectural marvel, Richmond Building, started taking shape in 1963, later accompanied by the Chesham and Horton Buildings on the opposite side of Richmond Road.
A significant milestone in our journey was reached in 1966 when the Charter of Incorporation was granted. With this, Bradford Institute of Technology metamorphosed into the University of Bradford with then Prime Minister Harold Wilson stepping in as the university's first chancellor.
The 1970s brought about another remarkable phase. The university emerged as an important international centre for Yugoslav studies, thanks to the establishment of the University of Bradford Postgraduate School of Yugoslav Studies. This became a central academic fortress, attracting numerous scholars and academicians including the eminent British geographer, Frederick Bernard Singleton.
Our story is punctuated by moments of expansion and growth. Throughout the 1970s and the years following, we added several edifices to our main campus including the Library and Computer Centre, Communal Building, Pemberton Building, and Ashfield Building. Moreover, in the mid-1990s, we extended our Library and Computer Centre to accommodate our growing student populace.
One of our defining moments came in 1996 when we joined forces with the former Bradford and Airedale College of Health. This partnership gave birth to our very own School of Health Studies, bolstering our variety of courses.
Our journey, however, also had its ups and downs. The Department of Physics was unfortunately closed down in the 1980s, and the Department of Mathematics had halted new undergraduate admissions in 1997. But every setback only spurred us on – with the Mathematics department later reopening under the School of Computing, Informatics and Media.
In 1987, we became a prestigious member of the Northern Consortium – a decision that showed our drive to continue learning and evolving. Towards the end of 2009, discussions of a merger between the University of Bradford and Leeds College of Music began. Despite the original plans of the college to merge with Leeds Metropolitan University earlier in April that year, the negotiation met with a stalemate due to roadblocks related to the provision of further education courses. The merger plan later fizzled out due to financial limitations, leading Leeds College of Music to validate their degrees from the University of Hull.
In each juncture of our history, we aim to evolve, innovate and provide the best possible education for our students. We stand today, a testament to resilience, growth, and the unending pursuit of excellence in education. As a part of the University of Bradford, you're not just joining an institution - you're becoming part of a legacy that spans nearly two centuries. You're stepping into an academic arena built on the pillars of knowledge, skill, and innovation.
