A cantankerous but sprightly gentleman, William Beaumont, decided to do something almost unheard of: he kick-started an institute to teach art and design, which sooner than later metamorphosed into what we now call the Anglia Ruskin University.
Beaumont, never one to shy away from a challenge, didn't wait for the proverbial apple to drop on his bonce. No sir, he leapt forth like a gazelle in a morning bloom to create the Cambridge School of Art. Over time, this little acorn of creativity grew into a whacking great educational oak tree, spreading its branches across East Anglia by the 20th century, no less!
