It wasn't known as the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) then, oh no! It was called 'The Institute for the Diffusion of Knowledge'. Sounds mighty, doesn't it?
Well, let's slide back down the timeline. You would be amazed to know, or may stumble over your cup of tea knowing, that this institute was initially a pampered child of two illustrious lads - Joseph Livesey and a bunch of his buddies. Happens to be, they aimed to quench the intellectual thirst of the local folks out there.
Now, let's hit the fast forward button to 1851; the institution slipped into a trendy new gown and was reborn as 'Harris Institute.' Imagine that! A complete makeover or you can say 'The Cinderella Moment!'. The Harris Institute stood its grounds focused on crafting well-rounded personalities, not just pen pushers.
