History University of Exeter

Back in 1855, someone had a bright idea to educate folks in a more structured manner, just like a bubbling pot of delicious curry, things began simmering. That's right, we're talking about the birth of the University of Exeter. Some wise fellows decided to establish the Exeter School of Art, marking the university's first step.

You see, back then, education wasn't a piece of gulab jamun, schooling was as rare as a Rajnikanth movie without a fight scene! So, when the Exeter School of Science was born in 1868, it stirred up quite the commotion, but in a good way, of course. Seems like folks at Exeter had a knack for making learning exciting, pretty much like a Bollywood plot twist!

Fast-forward to 1922, the University College of the South West of England came on the scene. Elegant title, don't you think? Something you'd want to proudly engrave on a name plate. To cut a long tale short, this was the precursor of the University of Exeter as we know it today. Makes our Exeter story a bit like Bahubali, with a prequel and a sequel and all.

Now, a certain Sir Hector Hetherington, yes the gentlemanly chap who was Principal of the University College of the South West had a notion. He believed that the university needed its unique identity. Human nature, don't you reckon - always wanting the apples you can't reach.

Well, let's be honest, not all ideas bloom into yummy mangoes; some remain sour lemons. Sir Hetherington's plan floated around like a thali without naan, until a royal charter in 1955 declared the University College to be none other than the University of Exeter. I bet Hetherington had his daal makhani moment then!

Phew, we've made it to 1955! Now, did I mention Princess Mary graced the grand opening at the helm of the University? Yes, it was nothing less than a Bollywood-style gala event, with all the necessary hullabaloo.

My friends, MS Dhoni wasn't the only one hitting sixes. Exeter was smashing it out of the park too! By the 1960s, the University was expanding faster than a vada pav stall can serve a hungry crowd. It wasn't just piling on textbooks, but also snagging land for more campuses.

More recently, it's being acclaimed as a world-class university, throwing its hat in the ring with the best. Like a hot cup of chai on a chilly winter evening in Delhi, this recognition has added warmth and cheer to Exeter's achievements.

In the midst of all this, has Exeter forgotten its roots? Nah, like a Bollywood star who still enjoys his plate of street food, the University of Exeter has preserved its historic charm, blending it with modern thinking. It's the same old magic, but with a new masala!

Now, here's the aroma that draws Indian students. Exeter loves its diversity, like a well-blended biryani, every grain has its unique flavour. With about 20,000 students from over 130 different countries, Exeter reflects the same spirit of unity in diversity that we uphold in India.

So, my young scholars, the University of Exeter is not just a place to study. It's a space where you can play your own Bollywood-style hero, scripting your journey with a dash of history, a stroke of modernity, and a pinch of Indian tadka!
