Initially, the school catered to 64 part-time students, a small and humble beginning that soon was overshadowed with astonishing growth.

The new home was in John Carpenter Street and housed the music school and two city-owned schools, all nestled within an intricate city-built educational structure. By December 9, 1886, with the opening ceremony graced by the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Reginald Hanson, the school was set for its next phase of growth.
Under the leadership of its first principal, Thomas Henry Weist Hill, and his impressive team of ninety instructors, education thrived.
