Delve into the enthralling journey of Point Blank Music School that began in the humbling confinements of a recording studio in Greenwich, London, way back in 1994. A bass player whose rhythm had been recognised by none other than Sony, Rob Cowan, donned the hats of the Founder and CEO. His melody filled journey previous to Point Blank was significant as he was a part of the Sony-sponsored band Honeychile, and he contributed his expertise as a studio engineer at Matrix studios, where celebrated artists like D:Ream and Blur often sought his assistance.
Our story has an interesting twist as Point Blank, initially a recording studio, found a new identity as a school when clients expressed curiosity about managing the gear themselves. Such a transformation! It was henceforward, they shifted base to Hoxton, London, presently renowned for offering educational courses on music production, sound engineering, DJ performance, songwriting, singing, music business, and live sound.
But the journey was not all smooth. In 2013, Point Blank encountered a significant hurdle when the Border Agency banned it from sponsoring non-EU nationals. The reason? Too many admissions offered to students who could not meet the compliance rules. The status of 'highly trusted' was snatched from it after a decade. The issue was later rectified in the same year post a re-inspection, following which the managing director attributed the ban to 'formalities and clerical errors on the part of UKBA.'
2015 marked the year of making a mark outside home-ground. Point Blank established its school in Los Angeles, promisingly launched in the historical Mack Sennett Studios. Fast forward to 2022, Point Blank L.A. relocated its operations, just a mile away from Hollywood's charm, to the standalone campus facility on La Brea Avenue. Beaming with the pride of offering postsecondary programs in domains like music production, audio engineering, DJ performance, vocal & instrumental performance, and music industry studies.
There was no halt in the expansion spree! In 2016, Hoxton saw Point Blank's growth with the opening of a second studio complex. The new complex housed seven state-of-the-art teaching studios, engaging students with DJ and music production equipment, such as the next-gen SSL Duality Delta mixing desk.
The expansion of Point Blank crossed national frontiers again in 2017, this time in the pulsating city of San Jose, Ibiza. Nestled in the Can Blau facility, it was here that a unique DJing and Music Producing hybrid course was initiated. Followed by launching a two-week DJ/Entrepreneur course in Mumbai, India, the same year, in collaboration with The True School of Music.
The ever-evolving trajectory of the Point Blank's journey reached a historic high in 2019. A school was opened as far as in Hangzhou, China, in association with NetEase FEVER.
