Far back in 1785, tucked away in the heart of London, Queen Mary University found its roots as the humble London Hospital Medical College. A snug and intriguing tale of a university that didn’t stop growing, isn't it? Not realizing at the time the sapling they were planting was set to grow into a towering tree of knowledge. Ah, such foresight they had!
It then underwent a few moniker makeovers, you know, the whole teenage phase of identity crisis! In 1887 it emerged as The East London College. Eventually, in 1934, it was proudly christened Queen Mary College to honour Queen Mary of Teck. Fancy, isn't it? And boy must she have been chuffed!
1915 rolled around and guess what? The University also embraced a Women's College, Westfield. Now there’s some girl power for you folks! Queen Mary, ahead of the times in demonstrating equality in education.
