History University for the Creative Arts

Once upon a time, in the year 2005, something extraordinary happened in the world of art and design education in the UK. An exciting new educational hub sprouted into existence with an electrifying enthusiasm. It was the birth of the University for the Creative Arts.

An alliance of previously independent colleges flung open their doors under the University for the Creative Arts banner – a unifying moment, which brought reputable schools together. The Surrey Institute of Art & Design, Kent Institute of Art & Design and their long-standing history dating back to the 19th century, combined their rich heritage and wisdom, crafting the young yet time-honoured University for the Creative Arts.

Imagine the birth of a university, buzzing and brimming with creativity! This was not a sudden creation though; this was a purposefully designed collaboration, one that had been marinating over the decades, dating back to 1866. This was the year the Farnham School of Art set the first stepping stone towards the making of the University for the Creative Arts.

Jumping forward to the 1900s, Maidstone and Rochester Colleges tossed their hats into the ring, contributing to the foundation. Those colleges themselves were no rookies, stretching back to 1886 and 1891, respectively. Add to the mix the Epsom School of Art, brought to life in 1893, we've got an age-old culinary concoction.

A bit more leap in time to the year, 1987 and the 'Kent Institute of Art & Design' came into being, followed by the 'Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University College' in 1994. These behemoths later crafted a spark and served as the key catalysts leading to the creation of the University for the Creative Arts.

Maidstone would later joyfully merge with the newly formed Kent Institute. Jump forward to the historical year, 2005; the 'Surrey Institute of Art & Design' and the 'Kent Institute of Art & Design' joined forces and out sprang the University for the Creative Arts, brilliantly shining like a diamond.

The icing on the cake came two years later, in 2007, when the university was granted full degree-awarding status, making it a full-fledged academic powerhouse. How amazing is that – from the humble beginnings to the international recognition of a degree-awarding powerhouse? It's like the age-old tale of the Phoenix rising from the ashes, isn't it?

Fast forward to the present day, the University for the Creative Arts now stands tall as an international centre of excellence, nurturing the talents under its roof who are passionate about the Creative Arts. University's studios, workshops, and labs are equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation.

Taking on an eternally vibrant journey, the UCA has emerged as an international destination, kind of like our very own Bollywood for creative arts. So, to all the Raj's and Simran's out there, remember, UCA is the station to catch your artsy love train!
