History Truro and Penwith College

Back in 1993, nestled in the scenic landscapes of Gloweth near Threemilestone, Truro, Cornwall, a new haven of learning was born - Truro College. It took the mantle of the erstwhile Truro Sixth Form College, infusing a fresh lease of life into academic endeavours in the region.

Around 13 years earlier, in the historic town of Penzance, another educational institution had come into being. Penwith College, as it was named then, began its journey in 1980 as Penwith Sixth Form College. It reinvented itself in 1990, assuming its fresh identity as Penwith College, a tertiary education pioneer in the region.

Fast forward to 2006, a significant, transformational decision was taken. Truro and Penwith Colleges, two stalwarts of the academic world, decided to merge. By 2008 the amalgamation was complete, rendering the path for a more comprehensive, enriching learning experience for students.

In the spirit of widening their educational influence, the newly merged institution played a significant role in founding another distinguished institution-Callywith College in Bodmin. This FE college welcomed its first batch of eager learners in September 2017.
