However, fate had a cruel twist waiting. During the very first semester, a rampant outbreak of typhoid fever claimed our dear visionary's life. However, his dream was far from over- the institution thrived remarkably, the quality of education so supreme that it was rechristened Lasell Female Seminary to honor its noble founder.
The phase of metamorphosis continued as the name evolved yet again to become Lasell Seminary for Young Women by 1874. Under the watchful eyes of Charles C. Bragdon and a competent board of trustees, changes were strategically made. Not only was the faculty broadened, but academically intense subjects like domestic work, art, and music were introduced. A centre for innovation and strategy, the then Lasell made waves by testing its students through Harvard exams and introducing novel law courses for women.
