When David Hopkins and Allyn Hall said "Let's create a college", did they know that they'd become the founding fathers of Wright State University? They dove into the bustling world of academia way back in 1964, right in the heart of Ohio, USA - a land far far away from our Indian shores.
There, that year, something remarkable happened. A diamond started shining out of the coal mine. Yes, Wright State University was emerging. Can you believe it was named after Wilbur and Orville Wright, the brainboxes who invented the aeroplane and flew it for the first time? Now that's flying high!
But hold your horses, it wasn't an easy road to glory. WSU, as the cool kids call it, started with a humble set up. It was born as a small branch campus of both Ohio State University and Miami University but because it was taking baby steps, only offered freshman and sophomore level courses initially.
You'll laugh when I tell you that WSU's first batch comprised 3,203 students. It’s hardly 2% of Mumbai's population! Imagine that. Steadily though, they broadened the curriculum by introducing junior and senior level courses as well by 1968. They didn't stop there and the graduate programs were brought into the picture from 1969. Played it smartly, didn’t they?
