The journey of Centralia College has been a historic one. Would you believe that almost a century ago, in the year 1925, this very college started its quest for knowledge under the name of Centralia Junior College? A journey, it seemed, that was set from the get-go on a slow and steady path.
For the first 25 years, the college was only a name with no physical structure to represent it. But then came 1950 and with it arrived Kemp Hall, the first physical campus of the college. During this time, Centralia continued to grow, sprouting roots in the realm of higher education and gradually earning its deserved reputation.
The year 1948 was another significant milestone. The college earned its accreditation from none other than the prestigious Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The college started its operation with a minuscule entrance class of 15 students, can you imagine that? Fast forward to 2009, and the enrollment numbers have exploded to a whopping 4803, providing quality education in over 64 academic programs.
In 1982, the Centralia College Foundation was born thanks to the relentless efforts of several community members. As an affiliated private entity, this foundation continues to play a vital role in supplementing public resources for the college.
The college is not just known for its academic programs but also for being a devoted patron of beauty and art. From 1982 to 1987, the artwork was hidden behind curtains due to its somewhat sensual interpretation by some. Following a period of being tucked away in storage, the college managed to win the murals for display at the Corbet Theatre in 2002 only after a decade of negotiations.
