Let me tell you the story of an American gem. A gem called the University of Cincinnati. It all started way back, when the world was only just beginning to understand what higher education truly means.
Long ago in 1819, that's nearly two centuries! Daniel Drake, a spunky medical doctor had a dream, a mighty one. He envisioned an 'ole place for higher knowledge in the heart of Cincinnati. The dream soon took flesh and bones and "The Cincinnati College" and the "Medical College of Ohio" was born.
As the years chased each other, something exciting happened in 1870. The two colleges joined hands, or should I say, buildings? Yes, the merging jig was up and finally the "University of Cincinnati", sprang up like a tree after a refreshing spring rain!
The journey was far from over, buddy! The university continued growing strong, like a young cub turning into a majestic lion. Now, wait a minute you might say, "Isn't a University supposed to grow?" Oh yes, it sure is. But what matters here is the how.
With the arrival of 1906, dusted the dawn of cooperative education. Herman Schneider, an engineer, architect and educator, brought this revolutionary idea on board. An idea of tasting real-world job experience while still gluing eyes on academic books. Quite a win-win, right?
A couple of years later in 1954, another history got etched into the University of Cincinnati's grand journey. Albert Sabin, one of their own, discovered oral polio vaccine. Imagine that! Not only were students learning, they were out there making the world a safer place.
Now if these achievements are making you feel giddy, hold your horses because there's more! The university held hands with the Hoxworth Blood Center in 1938. Together, they pioneered blood banking, a life-saving movement which still has its roots firm and deep across the globe.
It wasn't all academics and no play. Did you know the University of Cincinnati is home to a voice heard around the world? The voice that spread love and peace through his song, "We Are the World". Yes, that's right, the famous pop star Michael Jackson went here.
As time flirted with years, the University of Cincinnati grew up beautifully. Today, it’s a comprehensive public research university located in the heart of Cincinnati. By the way, did I mention the sprawling campus is a peach? Over 200 major programs to choose from! Numbers speak for themselves, eh?
As we grew up, our university grew with us, constantly evolving and adapting. Nowadays, bustling with over 44,000 students, 50 research centers and an A-list faculty, the University of Cincinnati continues to nurture young minds all while making the world a better place.
