Oregon State University (OSU) has a past that's more exciting than one of your Bollywood favorites. The story starts way back in 1856, with a man called William Dixon who's no less of a superhero. Hold on to your seats, as this is not your everyday boring history class.
Pioneer Dixon scouts around in the land of plentiful – Oregon. His eyes fall on this gorgeous spread of green - Clover Valley. Ah, such scenic beauty! His mind races, imagining a place of higher learning amidst this unspoiled wilderness. There you have it, the seed of OSU!
Jump to 1858 and Olive Plaza, the mother of OSU is up and running. We had just the 38 students initially, but hey, each one a gem, no doubt! The rolling greens, the bubbling river, and our little Olive Plaza buzzing with intellectual curiosity - now that's what we call a ‘picture-perfect university’!
Come 1868, and it’s time for our next superstar, F.L Arnold, convinced the board members over a piquant masala chai, maybe. His dream? Oregon State Agricultural College, a proper ‘degree-granting’ institute, no less! The name might be a bit of a tongue twister, but considering the leap it signified for Oregon, we’ll let that pass.
