Nestled in the heart of North Carolina, this newfound learning haven was to be known as Elon College. It all started under the stern watch of its first president, the esteemed William S. Long, with an inaugural student enrolment of 76 eager minds.
Barely a few decades later, in 1923, destiny struck a harsh blow. The campus was ravaged by a destructive fire that reduced classrooms, the library, a cherished chapel, and even precious school records to ash. However, the indomitable spirit of the college shone bright. The board of trustees, with near-immediate decision, pledged to rebuild.
