You see, it was founded by Governor Austin Peay, who I reckon was a right smart fella'. It was his brainchild to train and educate future teachers who were itching to enlighten young minds.
"No college or university was there in that area, let's create one!" They said. And bada-bing bada-boom!, by 1929, they had made a big ol' splash, attracting around 396 students. And guess what? All of them were women. As impressive as a peacock, ey?
Then in 1939, like a phoenix rising from ashes, the institute transformed itself into Austin Peay State College, offering four-year degree courses. It tickled the fancy of many and expanded its family by opening doors to men too.
There was a fella named Halbert Harvill in 1946; now, this bloke decided to take the driver's seat. He was at the helm of this ship for a cool 22 years!
