Imagine it's 1944, in the vibrant heart of Fresno, California. A charming, large house at 1095 N. Van Ness Ave., is buzzing with intellectual energy as five stalwart staff members and a dedicated group of twenty-eight students embark upon the educational journey of their lives. They christen their institution the Pacific Bible Institute. By the end of the first academic year, the institute had surpassed their humble beginnings, shifting to an architecturally grand former YWCA building, a classic beauty designed by no other than Julia Morgan. The new academic year kick-started in these fresh environs, a testament to growth and aspirations.
Fast forward to 1958, an eventful epoch for the institute as it stretches its wings further. The institute bought a swath of land near the intersection of Butler and Chestnut to construct a state-of-the-art campus, which would stand in good company with the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary and the newly erected Butler Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church. Construction was initiated that same year on a new classroom building, with two dormitory buildings following a year later. By the autumn of 1959, the classroom building was buzzing with intellectual debates as the student populace grew, but the dorm buildings opened doors to students only in 1961, due to financial hiccups.
1961 also marked the year when the Pacific Bible Institute evolved into an accredited junior college, embodying grander academic aspirations. The visionary decision to develop a four-year program was taken two years later, in 1963, setting the foundations for what was to come. With the dawn of 1964, a fresh identity was born as the Pacific Bible Institute metamorphosized into Pacific College, achieving accreditation with the WASC a year later.

The Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary integrated with the university, rechristening itself as Fresno Pacific University Biblical Seminary.
