Southeastern Louisiana University, a great and historic educational institution, witnessed its humble beginnings as Hammond Junior College back in 1925. At that time, managed by the Tangipahoa Parish School Board, the college offered only a teaching certificate. Just two short years later, it relocated to the esteemed Hunter Leake estate in north Hammond to cater to a larger student population.
In 1928, fresh waves of change swept over the university. Marking a significant milestone in its journey, the college christened itself with a new name - Southeastern Louisiana College.
