Once upon a time, somewhere around 1947, Manor College's story begins. Now, ain't that a thing? A group of Ukrainian Sisters of Saint Basil the Great, decided it was high time to set up an institution to champion our young scholars' dreams. Their vision? A big, no, humungous difference in higher education.
A Basilian monk by the name of Father Josaphat Jean, now there's a mouthful, rolls off the town of Fox Chase's tongue pretty well, doesn't it? Anyway, he gave birth to this academic hive. So, the very first bricks which Manor College rose from were graciously piled up in his name. These Sisters, they had an eye on the prize, a renowned grand centre of learning. Now, doesn't that sound fabulous?
Wait, there's more! By 1959, they were saying, "Let's not stop here, folks", and so, they bloomed into a Junior college. My, my, quite the ambitious bunch! And that's how Manor College became officially recognized by, hear this, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Not too shabby, if I may say so. It made a thunderous splash in the realm of higher education.
In came 1967 and changes, they kept a-coming. Charles Peguy said 'Starting is good, but continuing takes nerve,' and these folks took it to heart.
