And behold the new name – East Tennessee State Teachers College. Fast forward to 2005. The University announced an ambitious project - the establishment of a College of Pharmacy. The local community showed overwhelming support, making the vision a reality quickly. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission and the Tennessee Board of Regents gave permission to start the country's first PhD program in Sport Physiology and Performance.
