Once upon a time, in 1899 to be precise, a vision was birthed. A vision to provide the best Christian education possible in sunny California of the United States. Mary A. Hill and Charles Cecilian Secor, a dynamic duo, decided to kick-start an establishment for holistically transforming young minds, and that was the inception of Azusa Pacific University.
Fast-forward a few years, to 1939 specifically. World War II was on the horizon, and the University too was bracing for its own storm. With students leaving in high numbers to join the war, it looked like curtains for our beloved school. But, like the phoenix, the University too was reborn from the ashes. A relentless gentleman named Cornelius P. Haggard came to its rescue, leading as president for more than 36 years. Remember the name, lads!
The story took another interesting turn in 1965 when the University was renamed as Azusa Pacific College. Those were the days when the 'hippies' ruled the roost, The Beatles were on everyone's playlist, and the college was expanding faster than Usain Bolt on a sprint. The College moved to a larger campus in Azusa, and our dear friend C.P. Haggard, yes the same old war-time hero, bought 53 acres of land. And boy oh boy, what a view it was! A perfect space to soak in knowledge, don't you think?
As time progressed, so did the reputation of Azusa Pacific College. By 1981, the college had grown enough to earn the title of a university. A proud moment, indeed, but our vigilante team of educators and students didn’t just rest on their laurels. They aimed for the stars, and with the collective efforts, Azusa Pacific University became home to seven colleges and schools by 2000. A whopping number for sure!
The rest of the story is history, mates! Today, Azusa Pacific University is one of the biggest names in Christian higher education in the USA. This isn’t just a university; it’s a legacy passed on over decades.
With a strong focus on academics, faith, and character development, these folks have got the mix just right. What's more interesting? They welcome international students with open arms. And yeah, for my Indian friends, how about an esteemed Christian university, with a mix of perfect American education system peppered with your intrinsic Indian values and ethics?
