Step back in time to 1881. The time when an adventurous group of folks decided to go all-in on a vision, a vision they called Concordia College. Fast forward to today. We have a thriving, vibrant campus that has gone beyond their wildest dreams. Now, how did we get here, you ask? Well, pull up a chair, dear reader. It’s story time.
It all kicked-off with a group of Norwegian immigrants. Yes, you heard it right, Norwegian. They were led by a man called A.O. Oppegard. I know what you're thinking. 'A.O. what?' But I promise you, Oppegard was a lad full of spirit, a real go-getter. With a heart full of ambition, he did one of the bravest things and founded Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
At the beginning, it was bare-bones, to say the least. We're talking 12 students and one rented building. But here's the kicker, by 1891, 10 years later, it had seen more than a hundred students. Talk about rapid growth, huh? Goa could take a tip or two about tourism from these fellas!
Now, if you think the journey was all smooth sailing, think again. Word got around, that in 1893, the college faced the heat of a fire which gutted the main building. Setback? Sure, but Concordia sprung back, and how! Within two years, they had bounced back invincible, like a superhero, with a new main building that served as a beacon of hope!
Then came a man named Rasmus Bogstad, a visionary. He reshaped Concordia’s academic program and brought about an era of stability. The 1920s roared around the globe and for Concordia too, as the college began its foray into coeducation. Yes ladies, we're in the picture now!
