History Skagit Valley College

One sunny day in 1926, a group of bright-eyed visionaries led by Dr. Vernon "Vern" Alfred Jensen, rolled up their sleeves and embarked on the adventurous journey of setting up a first-class learning institution in the heart of the Skagit Valley in the state of Washington in the United States. And like a blooming red Indian rhododendron, out came Skagit Valley College.

Now, let's take a jolly good ride back in time. Imagine it's 1948 and everyone is buzzing, what's the hullabaloo about, you ask? Well, Vern that's our man, getting hands busy, putting up another milestone in Skagit's history. The college received accreditation from the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools!

Fast forward time to 1955, a dash of cheer and a sprinkle of Indian spirit, Skagit Valley College found a new place to call 'home'-Mount Vernon. Now that really put things in motion. Well boys and girls, just like the spicy samosas, the college started getting a tad bit hotter, pulling students in from all around the globe.

Our next pit stop: 1965. Skagit Valley College played a major role in the emergence of the Washington State Community College system. Hold your horses, it's not as heavy as it sounds! All it meant was that it made education as easy as a chickoo to get for everyone and anyone. The college became like that well-crafted Indian thali, offering a little bit of everything!

1970 rolled along and another miracle happened; an extension of the college named - San Juan Center popped up like the Mumbai nightlife. It welcomed students like long lost friends looking to catch up over a cup of masala chai!

Then came 1978, the year the college canoodled with the Washington State Board for Community College Education, obtaining full-fledged approval for its academic excellence. Kinda sounds like giving your girlfriend a place in your family, right?

Skagit Valley College's journey has been as flavoursome and tantalising as a well-prepared Indian biryani. From 1989 to 1995, three learning centres sprouted up, enhancing access to education, just like the easy reach to lip-smacking spicy golgappas at every corner of an Indian street.

In 2001, the college established its Marine Technology Center and the Indian in us can't help but exclaim, "Ab yeh hui na baat!" Talk about getting a head start in the field of marine sciences.

In 2012, the college took it up another notch. Like a spirited Bollywood dance-off, it wowed the spectators by receiving a ten-year reaccreditation! Now that's something to do a bhangra about!

Like a bride on her wedding day, Skagit Valley College has been continuously evolving and transforming since its inception. The journey from 1926 till now is a testament to its strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to spreading knowledge and empowering minds.
