Alright, buckle up, folks! Let's time travel back to the 1947, when it all began. Yeah, you heard it right! Maryland's one of the largest professional schools, that is now known as Stevenson University, used to be Villa Julie College.
Our story begins with two spirited women, Sister Marita Michel and Sister Hilary Ross. These ladies had fire in their bellies and one giant dream; to create an establishment that nurtures the minds of young individuals. Hence, Villa Julie College was born!
Now, the initial years were a bit of a slow ride, you know. The college catered exclusively to a medical secretarial training program for women. But, don't you worry, it was no small potatoes! This very program became a stepping stone to what VJC is today.
The year 1967 shovels in with a big twist indeed. It's like a masala-laden Indian curry, spicy and full of surprises. The college's leadership took a bold decision to transition from a two-year college to a four-year one, and bingo, it worked!
Fast forward to the 1970, and even more surprises are up the sleeve. The college introduced co-education. Yes, your guess is right. The girls-only college turned into a co-educational establishment, opening its doors wide for all.
Now, let's tumble into 1984. Our college was no lazy daisy. Ambitious indeed, it introduced the bachelor’s degree program, taking a great leap forward into the realm of higher academics.
