Nestled amidst the palm tree-lined streets of Redlands, California, lies a charming gem of academia - the University of Redlands. But let's take a step back - all the way back to 1907 to exactly how this amazing institution came into being. Pull up a chair, my friends, we're taking a stroll down memory lane!
Gentlemen named Richard H. Bell, Lyman Stewart, and Thomas R. Best got together one fine day and decided, "Hey, why not establish a university in Redlands?" Now, doesn't that sound like a cool way to make plans over chai and samosas? Before you could say "University", in less than a year they already had the University of Redlands up and running with 59 students! Talk about quick decisions, right?
From 1910 to 1920, the university shaped up quite nicely, with four colleges establishing under its belt. The College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business, are still part of the varsity family, along with more recent sister institutes. Hmmm, seems like the university was growing faster than an algae bloom!
Fast forward to 1927, this is when things got really exciting! The university introduced a unique curriculum known as "The Johnston Experiment". Fancy name, isn't it? This allowed students to create their own course and even grade themselves! Freedom to design your course sounds more fun than a Bollywood dance number, doesn't it?
Into 1932 we gallop, during the infamous period of the Great Depression. Things were tougher than the toughest rasmalai, but did the University of Redlands back down? No sir! They stepped up their game and introduced a ground-breaking Field Semester Program offering hands-on learning experience to the students. Now that's what we call thinking out of the classroom!
Come 1968, in true Rang De Basanti style, students got together and protested for the relevance of higher education. Quite an exciting time! And voila, the result was a more practical, flexible and socially relevant course. Now that's some effective student power!
Leapfrogging to 2007, we reached a major milestone as the university celebrated its glorious centennial year. Yayyy! Did they throw a party? You bet, they did! Only, this was a "green" party, focusing on environmental sustainability. Now that's called partying responsibly!
We now reach 2017, when the university, not one to rest on laurels, was already planning for the future. They launched a 'Forever Yours' campaign, aiming to raise $200 million! Now that's a heavier goal than a sumo wrestler, but guess what, they did it, and how!
Finally, we're in 2021. And what an incredible journey it's been! Over a century of providing top-notch education, helping students achieve their dreams. Just like an everlasting Bollywood saga full of suspense, surprises, and a happy ending!
So there you have it! The roller coaster ride that's the history of the University of Redlands. An inspiring legacy and a promising future, this university is more exciting than the most thrilling cricket match. And remember, you could be a part of this incredible story, shaping your destiny, one page at a time!
