University of Redlands

Based right in the heart of picturesque Southern California, the University of Redlands prides itself in delivering an academic experience that is as unique as the landscape it calls home. Marking its centenary year in 2007, the institution is rooted in tradition whilst embracing rich global perspectives, making it a true catch for Indian students longing for an education that goes beyond the classroom boundaries. The university houses around 5,000 students in total, with programs running the gamut from Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, to Mathematics and Computer Sciences, along with a range of inter-disciplinary options. Offering a unique liberal arts foundation, the University of Redlands emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking and effective communication. What sends it above and beyond still lays in; the stride they have taken to make education affordable. With almost 90% of undergraduate students receiving some form of financial aid, it's a tangible commitment to the ethos of education for all, regardless of financial standings.

So, what makes the University of Redlands a popular choice among students you ask? For one, a low student-to-teacher ratio averaging 13 to 1 ensures individualized attention and a greater depth of understanding. Indian students, especially, prefer a more tailored learning experience and find the opportunity to forge strong ties with faculty, a highly appealing factor. Also, the university boasts 100% of the classes taught by faculty, verifying every student receives taut, professional instruction rather than dilute teaching assistant led classes. The accolades don’t end here too. Students are availed a wealth of extracurricular activities catering to diverse interests from choir trips to Europe, marine biology research in Tahiti to internships in LA. Specific focus on experiential learning through internships, overseas study programs and collaborative research projects ensure that students graduate well-equipped to face real-world challenges head-on.

History University of Redlands

Once upon a time, in the early 20th century, a group of people decided to bring light of knowledge to a picturesque town of Redlands, California. The year was 1907, when University of Redlands opened its doors with just a few fearless souls at helm.

Now, Redlands wasn’t a sprawling metropolis, it was just a little nugget of gold waiting to be polished into something more. A handful of folks, like Rev. Edward P. Baker, Albert Smiley and Carl G. Doney stood solid as bricks, determined to give the town its own intellectual hub.

Aha! So, by 1909, they managed to gather enough dough (it was about $35,000, no small potatoes in those days!) to establish the first buildings. By the next year, more than 59 students stepped into this cognitive paradise. Though the number seems modest in today's term, believe it or not, it created quite a bustle back then!

Fast forward to 1914, and something wonderful happened. Redlands embarked on its first graduation ceremony. A batch of 9 bright buttons, whooshed out of Redlands equipped with a heaping spoonful of knowledge and a can-do spirit, ready to conquer the world!

Hitting the mid-century mark, Redlands underwent a major facelift. The 1950s saw the birth of new wings, the Johnston College of Integrative Studies and School of Business, tickling the curiosity of those who sought unconventional paths to success. Aha! This is where things started getting really interesting!

Now, if you’re wondering why we're talking about this distant university, just pause and sip your chai. Imagine, a world-class learning center nestled amidst orange groves, oodles away from the noisy Indian cities. No blaring horns or screeching brakes, just a serene and lush campus enhancing wisdom. A perfect place to cook up your intellectual biryani, isn't it?

As we ushered in the new chapter of the millennium, Redlands kept up its swift dancing with changing times. Brand new programs started breathing life into its legacy and the university dusted some good old American flexibility into the mix. No rigid hard and fast rules, but a buffet of subjects for the young intellectual to pick and choose from!

Johnston College got a dash of verve in 2001. It revolutionized the traditional stale-biscuit education system with student-designed majors. Yeah, you read it right, students designing their own majors! Didn't I tell you, things were getting interesting?

Today, the University of Redlands, this 100+-year-old brainchild continues its playful waltz with the essence of ‘experimental learning’. Nearly a quarter of its undergraduate students get all jet-set and head overseas to munch on the educational offerings of distant lands. Who wouldn't want to be a part of such an epic journey!

So, dear Indian parents and high school students, this isn't just a trip down memory lane. No sir! This is a beacon for your little nestling, eager to spread its wings and conquer unknown skies. Let's give them a chance to write their piece of history in the annals of University of Redlands! Who knows, maybe, just maybe, tomorrow's sunshine could be born in this American haven of knowledge!

And trust us, the University of Redlands is more than ready to welcome its young Indian sprouts into its mesmerizing world. So, get ready to hitch a ride in this transcontinental carousel of knowledge.
