The story of the Oregon Institute of Technology predates independence, not of India of course, but America's, going all the way back to 1947! Back then it was as brand new as the nation itself, starting life as the Oregon Vocational School. It ain't that tricky to guess that its main purpose was...yep, you got it - to provide technical training, mainly to the World War II vets.
As time zipped by, the school evolved in leaps and bounds. In 1953, don't ask me why they waited six whole years, they changed the name to Southern Oregon College of Education. But, well, the focus was still on technical education. Quite a paradox if you reckon, ain't it?
Now, if you're thinking it's a one-man show, I beg to differ. It was the hard work of one 'Mr. Winston Purvine' that made the difference. Nah, he was not some superhero swooping down from the sky; he was in fact the first president of the institution. Under his leadership, the tech college grew from few wooden sheds to multiple campuses. Sounds more like the stuff they make movies of if you ask me.
What's more interesting than a bit of a name-game, right? So, in 1973 the college switched to its present name - Oregon Institute of Technology, or Oregon Tech for short. Just like switching sides in cricket, who would have thought it would make such a difference in the game!
Alright, let's not wander from the path. By the 1990's, Oregon Tech had made a name for itself and rightly so. Our very own version of Sachin Tendulkar - not one, but a team of Masterminds led the institute to become one of the finest in the field of applied sciences. Not to forget, they even added athletics! So, if you ever dreamt of studying abroad and kicking some footballs, Oregon Tech is the place.
No, the story doesn't end there. These guys love change, don't they? In the early 2000s, Oregon Tech went a step further and embraced the online world, pioneers just like our beloved Virat Kohli, always looking for ways to do things differently, right?
So here we are, in 2022, nearly 75 years and countless academic milestones later, looking back at a journey that has transformed a world war era technical school into an internationally recognized institute. Can't help be in awe of it!
So folks, if you ever had any doubts about whether or not to leap across the pond and make America your academic home, let me tell you, Oregon Tech is just the place. Think and rethink, but remember - the risk of a wrong decision is better than the terror of indecision. Let the journey of Oregon Tech be an inspiration!
