Tucked away in sunny San Luis Obispo, California, our story unfurls, where the seed of the educational colossus named California Polytechnic State University, fondly Call-Poly, was sowed in 1901, thanks to a rather generous $100,000 donation by a big-hearted gentleman named Myron Angel. Yessiree, from a humble beginning with just 20 students and three teachers, the school has expanded impressively, like a peacock on a happy day, now brimming with around 23,000-something students.
Now, a bit of a hiccup did occur in 1903. With the founder's demise, the school closed temporarily but perked up, gathered its wits and eventually reopened in 1905, running on pure tenacity and enthusiasm. The cosmos smiled, yes indeed, and our Call-Poly began to offer forestry courses besides the "Learn By Doing" approach - groundbreaking at the time, if you ask us.
As the pages of the calendar turned, there was more on the table for Call-Poly. In 1924, it changed from a high school to a junior college and bagged a four-year degree course in 1940. Imagine the joy of cracking a tough puzzle - yeah that! And here's the fun part, while the world was in the throes of WWII, Call-Poly was training students as radio technicians for the US Signal Corps - how's that for patriotic spirit, huh?
