Once upon a time, in the spring of April 2007, a promising institution of higher learning sprang to life under the name Texas Gulf Institute. What was its mission? The initial two years devoted themselves to offering certificate programs, a major move towards a brighter future for young minds. The educational journey was just the beginning!
Time passed, and when the calendar hit July 2010, the institute got a nod for evolution. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, commonly known as THECB, granted approval to offer bachelor's degree programs. The winds of change were blowing, a transformation was on the horizon.
In an enthusiastic response to this evolution, Texas Gulf Institute applied for a change of moniker, honoring the shift in direction the institution had taken. It was thus that North American College (NAC) was born.
The journey became more thrilling when the 2010-11 academic year brought with it a monumental move. North American College settled into its new educational and administrative nest, located at 3203 N. Sam Houston Pkwy West, in the vibrant city of Houston, Texas.
Five years had passed since its inception, and in 2012, the baton of leadership was handed over to a new president. An engineer by trade, Recayi "Reg" Pecen, took the reins. However, the seat didn't remain his for long.
Five years later, in 2017, the torch of the presidency passed to Serif Ali Tekalan, a renowned physician. He stepped into the shoes as the third president of what had now become a luminary institution in higher education.
2013 marked a significant milestone in the college’s chronology. For the first time, the college had seen its students, all twelve of them, stride across the stage during commencement. Of these, nine proudly sported a bachelor's degree in business administration, while three showed off their degree in interdisciplinary studies in education.
The institution didn't just stop there. It rose from a college to a University! North American College underwent another name change in the fall of 2013 to reflect its new identity, evolving into North American University (NAU). It was a testament to its continued growth and success.
Fast forwarding to the present, NAU is a bustling hub of over 800 students immersed in a wide variety of programs, from ESL to bachelor's and master's degrees. But the most compelling part? The diversity! This prestigious institution pulls students from more than 33 U.S. states and over 54 different countries.
And so, the story of North American University continues, weaving a tapestry of education, transformation, and relentless pursuit of knowledge in the hearts of its students. A decade of history, a lifetime of impact!
