Once upon a time in 1922, tucked away in the city of Wichita Falls, the very foundations of Midwestern State University were being formed. Imagine this - it began as a humble junior college, not the magnificent university we see today! And fun fact, it bore a different name, known back then as Wichita Falls Junior College.
Fast forward to 1937, a new chapter begun. The college was renamed to 'Hardin Junior College' as it found its permanent home off Taft Boulevard. Furthermore, in 1946, the story took an uplifting turn as a senior division was incorporated, and the institution aptly became 'Hardin College'. It was like watching a butterfly emerge from its cocoon!
Yet the big moment arrived in January 1950, with a name change that would be recognized around the world. It came to be known as 'Midwestern University' and the junior college division continued to function under its previous name. But what really gained momentum was in March 1948 when the university earned its spot amongst esteemed members of the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
And it didn't stop there! New beginnings rolled in with the dawn of 1959. Aimed at reaching new academic heights, the university introduced a graduate school, a move that received full approval from the State Board of Education. Quite the achievement, wouldn't you say?
With the turn of the decade, in September 1961, came a significant development. The 56th session of the Texas State Legislature rendered Midwestern University a part of the Texas Colleges and Universities System. The junior college division bid adieu as it dissolved. Even more exciting, our precious university got its present name, 'Midwestern State University', in 1975, much to the delight of all involved.

In 2015, another landmark day was marked on the University's history. Suzanne Shipley became the university’s new president, taking the baton from Jesse Rogers after his remarkable 48-year long service.
A pivotal moment unfurled in December 2016. The university commenced expansion beyond its original campus and started building a new one in Flower Mound, Texas.
