Dr. Bernard Lander, the person you would thank for if you had a time machine, had this fantastic idea. He believed that everyone deserved an equal chance to strap on those college shoes, regardless of their backgrounds. That’s how the New York School of Career and Applied Studies, range finder of Touro College, began its journey.
In those early years, New York was the backdrop for the "Yankee Doodle Dandy" of an education revolution. The initial goal? To bring higher education within the reach of all students. Back then, Touro was a small-time operation with only 35 students signing up. But Dr. Lander did not throw in the towel. He had a dream, and cancellation was not on his mind.
Fast forward to the 1980s, video tapes were the in-thing, but at Touro, they were busy spinning the wheel of a more inclusive education. New York School of Career and Applied Studies saw the addition of the Career and Applied Study programs, making it a two-pronged push.
