You see, they wished for a learning space where minds could flourish beyond the ordinary boundaries. Led by the American Baptist Church, they founded the University of Redlands in Southern California. The chap leading the cavalry was President Jasper Newton Field, the first to run the show at the University.
Through choppy waters, the University took a bit of a hit during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Funds were puzzlingly scarce, but can you imagine this? The staff decided to take pay cuts rather than let the University go under. Quite heartwarming, if you ask me.
