Embarking on a thrilling narrative that kicked off in 1937, the foundations of Grace College and Theological Seminary came into existence. The helm of the leadership was taken over by the inspiring figure, Alva J. McClain. Shaping young minds in the field of theology, the institution originally started as Grace Theological Seminary.
In a forward-thinking move, an "undergraduate division" running for two years was incorporated in 1948. This move was more than just an innovation; it was the stepping stone transition from a traditional seminary setup to a more dynamic four-year Liberal Arts college.
The guidance and leadership of Alva J. McClain continued to create ripples of influence till 1962. The baton of responsibility gracefully passed on to his colleague, a trusted partner in this academic journey, Herman A. Hoyt. Hoyt held the reins of this institution stable till his retirement in 1976.
From 1976, the college prospered further under Dean Homer Kent, Jr.'s wing of the Grace Theological Seminary. On leading the institution till 1986, he passed this significant responsibility to Dr. John J. Davis, who served till 1993.
Carrying forward this legacy, Ronald E. Manahan took over from Davis and guided the institution till 2013. Next came William J. Katip, a familiar face at the institution since 2007 in the role of Provost, who became the president in 2013. Come 2022, the baton went to Dr. John Teevan, who took on the role of interim president from January to July 2022.
In July 2022, the college welcomed its seventh president, Dr. Drew Flamm. His association wasn't newfound as he served as the Vice President of Advancement at the college since 2013. His tenure gave birth to various initiatives, a key one being a restructured academic calendar dividing semesters into two vibrant 8-week sessions.
Not restricting the impact to the seminary alone, for years, Grace College has extended its education to the imprisoned in Indiana. This unique initiative covered various correctional facilities throughout the state and was headed by none other than Dr. John Teevan himself. However, certain legal amendments in Indiana led to this initiative transitioning into a robust GED program.
Grace College has also expanded its reach beyond the confines of its original location. Since 2011, it established a satellite campus in Indianapolis. Catering to commuter students, this location offered associate and bachelor's degree completion programmes at 96th and Meridian on North Indianapolis. Though this location has ceased to operate, the institution continues to thrive with a new location in Akron, Ohio, showing a vision toward growth and expansion.
