Alright, let's turn the time machine knob as we take a ride, back to 1855. Picture this, an age of simplicity, horses and carts, steam engines, and Pennsylvania State University? Yes, friends, Penn State, as it lovingly came to be known, held its first class in the February of that year, with only seven students! But even from such humble beginnings, the little acorn of a school grew into a mighty oak of a university.
One peculiar gentleman by the name E. L. Reid played a significant part in this. You see, in 1862, when Uncle Sam passed the Morrill Land-Grant Act, this chap Reid grabbed the opportunity, and PSU became a land-grant university. This law, in a nutshell, offered states land to develop colleges. "Education for all!" they declared, and PSU opened its doors wider.
Can I get a drum roll, please? Let's fast forward a bit, to 1871. Now, this was the year when, hold your breath, women were allowed to join the university! Finally, right? We've all heard the saying, if you educate a woman, you educate a generation, and this marked a significant shift in PSU's journey.
In the winter of 1882, a certain George Atherton, a name that's more than just a dot on a city map, became PSU's seventh president. For two decades, this heroic chap battled financial crisis after crisis but managed to keep the university's head above water. Quite a bloke, was our Atherton!
Do you remember the good ol' college days, filled with frothy mugs and foosball tables? Well, in 1936, Penn State decided to harness that rowdy student energy into something useful and introduced the Greek system, launching a collection of fraternities and sororities. Talk about being more than just a pretty party house!
Each university has a defining moment, a time when the tide turns, when it takes a leap of faith. For Penn State, that was 1953. They introduced the Commonwealth Campuses beyond State College, bringing quality education to Pennsylvania's doorstep. Jolly good show, wouldn't you say?
From way across the pond, in a land of spices and sunshine, curious young minds started flocking to PSU around the 1970s. By then, PSU had carved a name for itself as a global institution, where education held hands with opportunity. To this day, those ties remain solid.
In 2011, we saw Penn State getting its first female president. Woohoo! Rodney Erickson, PSU's omnipresent figure, stepped down, and Dr. Kay Barron said, "I'll take it from here." And boy, did she take it!
Through conversations of 'Go green!' and climate change, in 2019, Penn State launched the Penn’s Woods Gateway. This project reintroduces Pennsylvanians and the university community to the riches of their own backyard and plays an important role in environmental awareness.
So, my friends, that’s the Penn State story. From a cluster of seven students to a vibrant global community, Penn State has always been a bit of a trendsetter, an innovator, always moving and shaking things around. Funny thing, University history, ain't it? It’s not just about buildings and funds; it’s about people and their passion for change. Here's a toast to the past and a nod to the future. Penn State, onwards and upwards!

Home is where the heart is! penn state offers on-campus housing in residence halls. you've got traditional dormitories, suites, and apartments to choose from. but there's off-campus housing too, if that's your thing.
And how! with more than 275 majors, penn state offers a huge variety of academic paths. whether you're thinking engineering or arts, business or science, this place has you covered. plus, you've got the option to choose minors, too.

Well, lucky you, if you've studied in an english-speaking country for at least two years, including your final two years of high school, behavioral science, your english requirement might just be waived!
Let's get you started. first up, you'd need to complete and submit an online application. be doubly sure to choose 'international' when asked for your student type. next is providing academic records, which include your high-school mark-sheets or transcripts, and results of entrance tests such as sat or act. and hey, you'll need to demonstrate english language proficiency, too. that could be a toefl or ielts score. finally, make sure to submit your financial guarantee documentation.
You have a few options. the toefl ibt global delivers the goods, and the same goes for ielts academic. if you've given the duolingo english test, that aces too. and hey, don't forget the sat or act english sections. you can opt for any but make sure you're scoring enough.
Great question! your academic records play a pivotal role. aren't your exams different from those in the u.s.? no worries, penn state uses a conversion guide to understand your grading system. but remember, it's not just about grades. these folks wanna see your potential for success. so, they'll look at your exam scores, your school involvement, the rigor of your high school courses, and even your personal accomplishments.
Phew! now we're talking dollars. well, to give a ballpark figure, the undergraduate tuition for international students is roughly around $35,000 to $36,000 per academic year. but remember, this doesn't include your living expenses, books, insurance, and all that jazz. so, have your budget sketched out accordingly.
