Embracing waves of educational passion and aspiration in 1864, a handful of devoted Christian Brothers took it upon themselves to furnish a better future for the budding minds in New Brunswick. Back then, there was a thought, a dream - we wanted to establish a higher education institution, not knowing that it would evolve into the illustrious University of Moncton we admire today.
Digging into the grassroot level of Moncton's academic inception, Saint Joseph's College was the rock bed. Now, what made Saint Joseph's unique, you ask? Well, in the era when education was all about English, this college stood firm with its convictions, promoting French language education. Such a straight bat, right!
Back in the day, education wasn't like your daily cup of chai. A lot of changes unfolded, and in 1963, things really heated up. Merging bits and pieces of Bathurst, Edmundston, and Moncton's higher educational institutes, the University of Moncton was born out in full swing. Our Alma mater turned over a new leaf, generating its first gust of academic excellence.
The next few years dashed by in a flash, enrolling students faster than mum fills up the Diwali snack plate. By 1968, we were a bustling campus of over 1600 students. Mirroring the passion of the Indian community that it houses today, Moncton University, too, was being driven by tireless determination.
