Back in 1901, some smart folks in England decided that there was a need for a new institution that could provide cutting-edge education for the bright minds of the future. So, they rolled up their sleeves, put their thinking caps on and gave birth to what was then known as Sunderland Technical College.
Our tale takes a twist in the roaring twenties, when Dr. Don Robson – can we get a big "Hip Hip Hurray!" for this guy? He entered the scene as the Principal of the college in 1921. Under his leadership, the institution started to shake off its baby feathers and began to blossom into the dynamic hub of learning we know today.
By mid-century, 1964 to be specific, our beloved Sunderland was strutting around with a new badge of honour. It became the Sunderland College of Technology (Sounds fancy, doesn't it?), focusing on technology and science. I tell ya, this was no small potatoes!
