The kickstarter of Azusa Pacific University is a tale of 1899 when Mary A. Hill, a scholar plunged in a wave of doing good to the people, had the world-shaking idea. Why not start bringing up folks with the development of their mind and spirit? And Voila! It led to the formation of a training school for Christian workers, planted in the heart of Whittier, California.
As the Rivera Avenue kept on booming with the giggles and voices of tons of those bright-eyed youngsters, in swoops Charles E. Fuller in 1939. A kind-hearted fella who had a vision sparkle as his eyes, clear as Azusa's skies. He literally made a move, shook things up a little and relocated the training school to Azusa in 1946. From then on, the institution was no longer just a training centre; it got its new name as the Pacific Bible College from the year 1939.
This heartwarming story takes another lovely twist in 1957. As universities back then were pushing boundaries the institution decided to raise the bar. They spruced up the curriculum, upped their degrees game and started embedding the essence of liberal arts in the course structures. From then on, it strutted as the Azusa College successfully for a decade.
Fast forward to 1965 and showstopper Cornelius Haggard steps into the picture. He reinvented the institution yet again, jiving to the beat of evolving education,rolled up his sleeves and changed the dynamics entirely.
