As a proud torchbearer of Methodist education, it was the second of its kind in the United States. Do you realize that for nearly three decades, from 1904 to 1931, it catered to the academic dreams of local youngsters? All until the construction of Cazenovia Central High School brought a halt to this arrangement.
Unleashing a new direction for education while residing in the old Madison County Courthouse, the seminary was co-educational since its inception. And guess what? All this was achieved without any sectarian influence, even while being supported by the Methodist Church! Would you believe it was an idea brought to life by George Peck, and several other influential clergymen of the time?
As the year 1839 dawned, they broke new ground with a unique three-year course tailored especially for women. And that's not all! A missionary course also took form, and in 1843, Sophronia Farrington (a proud alumna from the class of 1828), embarked on a journey as the first female missionary to Africa, under the noble banner of the Young Men's Missionary Society of Boston.
