Once upon a time, five brave veterans returning from the Civil War, decided to set up a medical institution - Detroit Medical College, in the year 1868. Theodore Andrews McGraw, one of the founders, who held the privilege of being a University of Michigan graduate (B.A. 1859), placed his signature on the college's charter. Before long, in the year 1885, the Detroit College of Medicine clashed and merged with its rival, the Michigan College of Medicine.
Post consolidation, they landed on a decision to put all their resources under one roof, tweaking the institution's blueprint. An unexpected turn of events saw McGraw rise to the daunting posts of the first president and dean. Little did they know that this very medical institution would gradually evolve into the famous Wayne State University School of Medicine.
